The Future of Vehicle Reversing Alarms?
The Future
of Vehicle Reversing Alarms?
Although only recently placed on their website, the following information was first published last year…
On the 17th August 2010, Peter Abbey of Brigade Electronics had this to say about the fact that ‘Beeping Reversing Alarms Cause a Noise Nuisance’.
The Noise Abatement Society says shrill beeping reversing alarms cause a noise nuisance and is supporting Brigade Electronics’ decision to phase them out.
The alternative is Brigade’s unique white sound reversing alarms (bbs-tek®) which are less irritating, sound effectively at lower decibel ratings, whist providing maximum safety benefits.
Brigade’s marketing director, Tom Brett explains: “With white sound – you only hear it when it matters.”
Six weeks later Brigade had this to say:Brigade Electronics has made a dramatic decision to phase out beeping tonal alarms over the next two years for a safer alternative that does not cause a noise nuisance.
The move follows an overwhelming surge in noise complaints from tonal alarms and the huge success of their unique and patented white sound reversing alarms (bbs-tek).
Tom Brett, marketing director of Brigade explains: “In 1976 when we introduced the first reversing alarm to Europe, there was no alternative. The shrill beeping warned of imminent danger and thus saved lives but with so many vehicles now fitted with reversing alarms, it has gained the reputation of causing a noise nuisance and even confusion. With white sound – you only hear it when it matters!”
White sound reversing alarms are safer because you can pin point the exact location from where a vehicle is reversing and can actually hear the direction it is moving in. This prevents worker disorientation and reduces the likelihood of workers disconnecting the vital reversing aid due to noise nuisance.
Then on the 11th October 2010, Brigade lead with this article: ‘White sound Reversing Alarms – Safer, Quieter, Cheaper’.
White sound reversing alarms are safer, quieter and now even cheaper according to Brigade Electronics who have radically slashed prices of their unique and patented alarms.
Brigade’s Director of Marketing, Tom Brett explains: “Advancements in manufacturing processes have enabled us to reduce costs, allowing us to slash prices (at stockist level) by at least 35% on our lower decibel models.”
The pioneer of reversing alarms recently announced plans to phase out the old style beeping alarms over the next few years on the grounds of safety and social responsibility, claiming shrill beeping alarms cause noise complaints, stress and disorientation.
According to Brigade, bbs-tek® is the safest on the market. Tom Brett explains: “White sound reversing alarms use broadband frequencies which give greater directional information to the ear, allowing the listener to instantly locate where the sound is coming from and take evasive action. This prevents the head spinning effect and consequent confusion caused by beeping alarms.”
